Teen Choice Awards: Best Dressed & Worst Tressed
Although I haven’t actually watched the Teen Choice Awards for a good 10 years, I still enjoy seeing the fashion recap for it. It’s definitely one of the more casual award shows, which makes the attire and hairstyles a little less predictable. Here are a few looks that caught my eye this year:
Zoe Saldana – She’s always flawless!
Rachel Bilson – She looks great from the center parted, half-up hairstyle, all the way down to her unique, embellished shoes.
Lucy Hale – I’m such a fan of this polished hairstyle! And her dress is really fun.
I normally abide by the rule “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”…but I have to make an exception in this case…
WTFergie! There’s a difference between the grown-out “ombre” look and this. This is some serious grow out. I prefer her hair darker and closer to her natural color, or atleast with more dimension if she’s going to keep it light!
MTV MADE
Did you catch today’s episode of MADE on MTV? In this show, featured singer (in training) Kenna Soule gets her pre-performance makeover at Hyde-Edwards Salon! MTV obviously knows what’s up – it’s the best place in San Diego to get your hair did.
In case you missed the episode, see Kenna’s transformation for yourself – click HERE for the show schedule.
Happy 4th of July!
Bb Texture Creme
…Is my new favorite product! Here’s how Bumble & Bumble describes this hair (un)dressing creme: It gives hair that elusive undone-yet-done quality, with a hint of grit, extra lift and a tousled, shine-free finish.
I’m obsessed with this leave-in creme because it creates a “bed-head”, messy look when I wear my hair curly. Not only do I love the look of matte hair, I also love the fact that the mattifying quality of Bb Texture Creme absorbs extra oil on the scalp so I can go a day or so without washing! It definitely gives my roots a huge boost and makes me feel like I have a heck of a lot more hair than I actually do.
Here’s how I use it:
Apply a quarter-sized amount of Bb Texture Creme to the roots, and pull remainder through to the ends.
Rough-dry hair, don’t worry too much about smoothing hair out with a brush. For extra volume, flip head upside-down and dry completely.
Gather the top two-thirds of hair and clip out of your way. In order to maintain a loose, undone curl, wrap the hair along the full length of the curling iron like this…
…Not like this (it will give you a tighter “Shirley Temple” curl)…
Pull down another third of hair and curl, continuing to rotate directions randomly.
Let down remaining hair, part hair wherever desired, and curl the rest of your hair.
Finally, run your fingers through the ends of the curls to “mess” them up a bit.
Finish with a light mist of hairspray, and there you have it – matte, un-done curls!
June Glam
Apparently there’s this thing San Diegans refer to as “June Gloom”. We’re well into June, and I’m not fully comprehending what all the fuss is about – remember I come from Oregon – and Oregon’s definition of “gloom” is much more depressing.
Regardless, I’d like to brighten San Diegan’s spirits by giving the gift of Glam…June Glam, that is. Come see me at Hyde-Edwards this month and receive $20 OFF ANY COLOR SERVICE!

Today’s Beauty Inspiration
Man, who knew moving to a different State could take so much out of you?! I have been so busy adjusting to a new home and new salon, I took a short break from my blog.
Thanks to Akula Kreative, I’ve got some new features on my updated website. I’m sooo looking forward to sharing new tips and products with you guys based on my change of scenery. Sellwood’s style was funky and eclectic, but now I get to take inspiration from (completely different) San Diego’s scene!
Here’s some sunny beauty inspiration for today:
Easy “Bed Head” Hair…
Bright Lip Colors…
and Colorful Fashion…
I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy my first summer in San Diego…
I Moved!
Hey guys. I want to apologize for being absent as of late – I moved from Portland to San Diego! I’ve been so busy, please forgive me. I’ll be back soon!
Brooklyn, Pink & Hilary’s Hair Changes
Purple…err I mean Pink (step away from the Shimmer Lights Toning Shampoo!) took some length off of her disconnected pixie. Here’s the result:
I loved her hair with more length on top! I’m not a huge fan of the straight forward style. Apparently neither is she; on March 12th, Pink Tweeted “The woman that did my hair butchered it. I hate it.” Hang in there girl – it will grow back!
Blond bombshell Brooklyn Decker recently lost some length also…quite a bit of it!
I’m neutral about this makeover. She looked a little more young and sexy with the long hair, but she looks so cute and sophisticated with the shorter hair. But then again, her outfit on the right is more casual, and she’s not wearing makeup – she could probably look equally sexy with the textured bob!
Here’s a makeover that I love!
She looks great with those long bangs! But let’s get real – when does she not have a great hair day (remember the topknot)?
What do you guys think of these hair changes? Do Pink or Brooklyn make you want to go shorter? Does Hilary’s hair make you more DTB (Down To Bang)?
What We’re Currently Listening to at E Hair Studio…
We at E Hair Studio can’t stop listening to Adele’s new album “21”. We are under Adele’s spell, and the side effects are serious. If you come into the salon, you will likely experience a series of fiercely good hair days. There have been many reported cases of women leaving the salon and walking 13th Avenue as if it were a catwalk.
(The second video is a great montage of Adele’s many hairstyles!)
